Frequently asked questions
When should I fish Champion Holo Perch?
It is a good starting colour in clear water, especially where perch are present. Its olive-gold flanks, dark back and vertical stripes resemble their colouring. Fish it around reeds, weed edges and drop-offs where the fish that pike hunt gather.
Is Holo Perch worth taking on a pike trip to Sweden and Finland?
Yes, especially for clear lakes and archipelago bays with perch. It is also worth having for similar waters in Masuria, Lithuania and Latvia. Add one bright colour to your box: it will be useful if you find a stirred-up bay or the fish do not respond to a natural pattern.
Is Holo Perch suitable for a sunny day?
Yes. In clear water and good light, you can start with this colour. As the lure glides sideways, it shows its natural pattern and flash. If pike follow without striking, try a slower retrieve or switch to the more subdued Bronze.
How do I retrieve Holo Perch around vegetation?
Cast along the weed edges and work the lure with short movements. Pause in an open spot, then get it moving again. Keep pauses short over weed because Champion sinks. You can let it sink for longer where the water is deeper and there are no snags.
When should I change from Holo Perch to another colour?
When the water becomes murky, try Fluo Tiger or Pink Candy. If you mainly see small silver fish, reach for Silver Holo. A colour change is also worth trying after several follows without a bite. Start with a similar retrieve to see whether the fish respond differently to the new pattern.
What kind of lure is Champion, and where is it worth fishing?
Champion is a sinking glider jerkbait. It glides from side to side on the retrieve, and you can change its action with rod movements or retrieve speed. It is worth fishing in bays, around reeds, along vegetation and over drop-offs. The key is to give it enough room to work.
Which Champion size should I choose: 12, 15 or 17 cm?
Champion 12 cm weighs 45 g, 15 cm weighs 80 g and 17 cm weighs 120 g. Choose the smaller model when you want to fish a smaller lure. The largest is worth trying when pike are feeding on bigger fish. Each size needs a suitable rod and a leader that can withstand pike teeth.
How do I retrieve the Champion jerkbait?
Start with short rod twitches or bursts of speed with the reel handle. Alternate these with pauses and watch the lure's action. You can also fish Champion without constantly jerking the rod. When pike respond poorly, slow down. If they strike decisively, try a faster retrieve and more frequent changes of pace.
Can I fish Champion over vegetation?
Yes, if there is enough open water between the vegetation and the surface. Champion sinks, so it drops lower during a pause. Over weed, shorten the pauses and control its fall. Beside the boat or bank, check how much time you can give it before it starts catching the vegetation.
Which Champion colours should I take on a pike trip?
For clear lakes and Swedish archipelagos, Holo Perch, Esox Lucius or Silver Holo are worth taking. Pack silver for Rügen, especially if you plan to fish where pike feed on herring. Add Fluo Tiger or Pink Candy for tea-coloured water, stirred-up bays and canals.
