Frequently asked questions

When should I choose Champion Silver Holo?

Reach for it when you see silver fish such as roach, bleak or herring in your water. Its silver flanks and dark back resemble their colouring. It is a good starting colour in clear water, especially when you want to use the lure's flash as it glides sideways.

Is Silver Holo worth taking on a pike trip to Rügen?

Yes, especially for places where pike feed on herring. The silver pattern then resembles the fish they hunt. Pack something bright as well, because wind can stir up the water and change the conditions during your trip.

Is Silver Holo suitable for Swedish archipelagos and waters in Finland?

It is worth having for coastal waters with herring and lakes with small silver fish. Also take Holo Perch for bays with perch. Pay attention to the fish present where you are fishing: pike prey can differ even between neighbouring bays.

Is Silver Holo suitable for Dutch lakes and canals?

Yes, especially where the water is clear and roach or other small silver fish are present. On a murky stretch of canal, also try Fluo Tiger or Pink Candy. In shallow water, shorten the pauses so the sinking Champion does not catch the bottom.

How do I retrieve Silver Holo to make use of its flash?

Alternate short sideways glides with pauses and bursts of speed. Its silver flanks reflect light when it changes direction. You do not have to jerk the rod hard all the time. If pike only follow the lure, slow down or try the less flashy Bronze.

What kind of lure is Champion, and where is it worth fishing?

Champion is a sinking glider jerkbait. It glides from side to side on the retrieve, and you can change its action with rod movements or retrieve speed. It is worth fishing in bays, around reeds, along vegetation and over drop-offs. The key is to give it enough room to work.

Which Champion size should I choose: 12, 15 or 17 cm?

Champion 12 cm weighs 45 g, 15 cm weighs 80 g and 17 cm weighs 120 g. Choose the smaller model when you want to fish a smaller lure. The largest is worth trying when pike are feeding on bigger fish. Each size needs a suitable rod and a leader that can withstand pike teeth.

How do I retrieve the Champion jerkbait?

Start with short rod twitches or bursts of speed with the reel handle. Alternate these with pauses and watch the lure's action. You can also fish Champion without constantly jerking the rod. When pike respond poorly, slow down. If they strike decisively, try a faster retrieve and more frequent changes of pace.

Can I fish Champion over vegetation?

Yes, if there is enough open water between the vegetation and the surface. Champion sinks, so it drops lower during a pause. Over weed, shorten the pauses and control its fall. Beside the boat or bank, check how much time you can give it before it starts catching the vegetation.

Which Champion colours should I take on a pike trip?

For clear lakes and Swedish archipelagos, Holo Perch, Esox Lucius or Silver Holo are worth taking. Pack silver for Rügen, especially if you plan to fish where pike feed on herring. Add Fluo Tiger or Pink Candy for tea-coloured water, stirred-up bays and canals.
