Frequently asked questions

When should I fish Champion Bronze?

Choose it when you want to fish a subdued, natural colour. Its brown flanks, dark back and pale underside create a less bright pattern than Pink Candy or Fluo Tiger. It is worth trying in clear or lightly stained water, especially after fishing with flashy silver.

Is Bronze worth taking to clear lakes in Sweden?

Yes, as a darker colour alongside Holo Perch or Silver Holo. You can also take this selection to clear lakes in Finland, Masuria, Lithuania and Latvia. Add something bright so you have a colour to fish in stirred-up bays as well.

When should I switch from Silver Holo to Bronze?

Try this change when pike follow a silver lure but do not strike. Make a few casts with Bronze from the same spot and use a similar retrieve. If you still do not get a bite, change the pace, pause length or lure size.

Is Bronze suitable for tea-coloured water?

It is worth trying if the water remains fairly clear despite its brown tint. If the lure quickly disappears from view, also reach for Fluo Tiger or Pink Candy. Water colour alone is not enough to choose a lure: how far you can see through it also matters.

How do I retrieve Bronze when pike are wary?

Start with short twitches and a gentle pace. Pause between movements if the depth allows. When a pike follows the lure, try suddenly speeding up. Keep pauses short over weed, while at a deeper drop-off you can let it sink lower.

What kind of lure is Champion, and where is it worth fishing?

Champion is a sinking glider jerkbait. It glides from side to side on the retrieve, and you can change its action with rod movements or retrieve speed. It is worth fishing in bays, around reeds, along vegetation and over drop-offs. The key is to give it enough room to work.

Which Champion size should I choose: 12, 15 or 17 cm?

Champion 12 cm weighs 45 g, 15 cm weighs 80 g and 17 cm weighs 120 g. Choose the smaller model when you want to fish a smaller lure. The largest is worth trying when pike are feeding on bigger fish. Each size needs a suitable rod and a leader that can withstand pike teeth.

How do I retrieve the Champion jerkbait?

Start with short rod twitches or bursts of speed with the reel handle. Alternate these with pauses and watch the lure's action. You can also fish Champion without constantly jerking the rod. When pike respond poorly, slow down. If they strike decisively, try a faster retrieve and more frequent changes of pace.

Can I fish Champion over vegetation?

Yes, if there is enough open water between the vegetation and the surface. Champion sinks, so it drops lower during a pause. Over weed, shorten the pauses and control its fall. Beside the boat or bank, check how much time you can give it before it starts catching the vegetation.

Which Champion colours should I take on a pike trip?

For clear lakes and Swedish archipelagos, Holo Perch, Esox Lucius or Silver Holo are worth taking. Pack silver for Rügen, especially if you plan to fish where pike feed on herring. Add Fluo Tiger or Pink Candy for tea-coloured water, stirred-up bays and canals.
