Frequently asked questions

Are large soft baits only intended for big pike?

No. Large soft baits are designed to selectively target bigger fish, but medium-sized pike regularly strike them too. A 19 cm lure matches the size of natural prey found in many fishing waters.

When is it worth fishing with large soft baits?

Large soft baits can be used throughout the season. They are particularly useful when pike are feeding on larger fish, holding in deeper water or ignoring small lures. They also work well in cold water with a slower retrieve.

How should I retrieve a large soft bait?

The simplest method is a steady retrieve with occasional changes in speed. You can also add short pauses that allow the lure to sink. A slower retrieve suits less active pike, while a faster pace imitates a fleeing fish.

Are large soft baits suitable for shallow water?

Yes. Using a lighter rig lets you retrieve a large soft bait above weed beds and in shallow bays. Choose the weight so that the lure works at the right depth without sinking too quickly.

Can I fish deep with a large soft bait?

Yes. Adding more weight lets you get the lure into deeper water, around drop-offs and close to fish holding near the bottom. Match the weight of the rig to the depth, retrieve speed and conditions where you are fishing.

How should I rig a large soft bait for pike?

Choose the rig to suit the design and size of the particular soft bait. A rig designed for large lures, with appropriately positioned treble hooks and a suitable weight, is most commonly used. The rig should not restrict the movement of the body and tail.

Which colour should I choose for a large soft bait?

In clear water, start with natural patterns that resemble the fish present in the water you are fishing. In murky water, overcast conditions and low light, contrasting, dark or fluorescent colours may be more visible.

Is Ukleja 19 cm suitable for fishing with live sonar?

Yes. Its large, clearly visible profile makes it easier to observe the lure and the pike's reaction on the fish finder screen. You can adjust the retrieve speed, depth and length of the pause as you fish.

Do I need a leader when fishing with a large soft bait?

Yes. When fishing for pike, use a cut-resistant leader matched to the lure's weight and the power of your tackle. This can be a suitably strong steel or titanium leader, or one made from thick fluorocarbon intended for pike fishing.
