The best pike lures in autumn – how to choose colour, size and type?

Autumn is the season every lure angler looks forward to. Water temperatures fall, and pike begin feeding intensively to prepare for winter. This is when predators attack most readily and offer a chance to catch real specimens. The key to success is choosing the right lure: its size, colour and type.

In this guide, we show which lures work best in autumn and why the Venom and Champion models from Jurassic Lures are effective choices for the season.

---

Why do pike respond to large lures in autumn?

In cold water, pike hunt more aggressively and readily take larger prey. This is the time to choose jerkbaits and bulkier models:

• 12–15 cm – versatile sizes that provoke both medium and large pike,

• 20 cm and above – ideal for anglers with powerful tackle targeting record predators.

The Venom 15 cm (80 g) and Venom 20 cm (170 g) were created specifically for autumn fishing: their action and size provoke the largest fish.

How to choose pike lure colours in autumn?

Lure colour is very important, especially in autumn when water clarity and light change.

• Natural colours (Realfish, olive, pearl) – effective in clear water and sunshine. The Champion Realfish range stands out with faithful imitations of natural fish.

• Aggressive colours (fluorescent, firetiger, chartreuse) – indispensable in murky water or under cloudy skies, when pike attack instinctively. This is the domain of Venom lures in their bright colour range.

• Dark shades (black, navy, purple) – best at dawn and dusk, when contrast is key.

Venom – a jerkbait for the largest predators

The Venom range consists of handmade jerkbaits ideally suited to autumn:

• Venom 12 cm / 45 g – a versatile lure, comfortable to retrieve and ideal for medium pike,

• Venom 15 cm / 80 g – the most popular model, effective in virtually any conditions,

• Venom 20 cm / 170 g – a substantial lure for anglers with powerful tackle, designed for specimen fish.

The broad colour range lets you match Venom to both clear and murky water.

Champion – the natural Realfish range

Champion is a lure for anglers who favour a natural presentation. Available in two sizes:

• Champion 12 cm / 50 g,

• Champion 15 cm / 85 g.

Thanks to the Realfish colour range it works exceptionally well in clear water, where pike can scrutinise their prey. It is an ideal complement to Venom: when predators feed cautiously, Champion offers the most realistic fish imitation.
