About the Venom collection

Venom – a pike glider with a wide action

Venom is a lipless glider-style jerkbait designed for catching pike. During the retrieve, it makes pronounced sideways glides resembling the movement of a weakened or fleeing fish. Its action is easy to control with rod twitches or using only a spinning or baitcasting reel.

It is one of the most thoroughly proven Jurassic Lures models. Venom brings us the most photos and reports of pike catches from anglers fishing in different parts of the world.

Three Venom sizes

Venom is available in three sizes, differing in weight, sink rate and intended use.

Venom 12 cm – 37 g, slow-sinking, BKK size 1 treble hooks

The smallest and lightest Venom version. Ideal for shallower waters, working over vegetation and situations where pike prefer a smaller lure profile. The slow sink rate keeps it in the chosen water layer for longer.

Venom 15 cm – 80 g, slow-sinking, BKK 1/0 treble hooks

The most versatile size for regular pike fishing. It combines a distinct silhouette with a controlled fall and the wide glides characteristic of a glider. It can be worked calmly with longer pauses or more aggressively.

Venom 20 cm – 170 g, sinking, BKK 3/0 treble hooks

The largest version, designed for catching large pike. Its substantial silhouette creates a strong stimulus in the water and presents the predator with a large prey item. The sinking construction makes deeper spots easier to fish.

How does the Venom jerkbait work?

Venom's defining feature is its pronounced left-to-right action. Successive twitches send the lure into wide glides, whose range and intensity can be adjusted through the retrieve.

Short, firm rod movements give Venom a more aggressive, irregular action. Gentler twitches produce calmer movements and keep the lure in a small area for longer.

Venom can also be worked using only a spinning or baitcasting reel. Varying the retrieve speed, with short accelerations and stops, creates irregular movement that can provoke a pike to strike.

Retrieving Venom with pauses

Pauses are an important part of working a glider. When stopped, Venom begins to sink, giving a following pike time to strike. Many bites may come during the pause or on the first movement afterwards.

In colder water, work Venom more calmly and use longer pauses. When pike are active, speed up the lure, use stronger twitches and shorter stops.

The 12 and 15 cm versions sink slowly, allowing longer presentations over vegetation and in the chosen water layer. The sinking Venom 20 cm lets you work deeper parts of the water more effectively.

Natural and fluorescent colours

The Venom collection includes patterns inspired by natural fish colours as well as strong contrasting and fluorescent colours.

Natural patterns are a good choice for clear water and places where pike feed on a particular fish species. Fluorescent and contrasting colours increase visibility in murky water, in low light and when predators need a stronger stimulus to strike.

The wide range of patterns lets you match Venom to water clarity, cloud cover, depth and pike activity.

A proven pike jerkbait

Venom is one of the most frequently chosen Jurassic Lures models. Anglers use it in many countries and on very different waters. It is also the model that brings us the most confirmed reports and photos of pike catches.

The combination of wide glides, a controlled fall, several retrieve options and a wide choice of colours makes Venom a potential staple glider in a pike lure box.

A lure for both experienced pike anglers and those just starting to fish with jerkbaits.

Frequently asked questions

What is Venom, and where is it worth using for pike?

Venom is a lipless glider jerkbait that slides from side to side on the retrieve. Use it along reed edges, in gaps between aquatic vegetation, over underwater humps and along drop-offs near shallow water. You can take it to Masuria, Swedish lakes and coastal skerries, Finland or Dutch canals. Choose the size and colour to suit the conditions where you fish.

Which Venom size should I choose: 12, 15 or 20 cm?

Venom 12 cm weighs 37 g and is slow sinking. Choose it when you want to offer pike a smaller lure or fish above shallow aquatic vegetation. The 15 cm version weighs 80 g, also sinks slowly and is a good starting point for lake fishing. Venom 20 cm weighs 170 g and is sinking. It is worth trying when pike are hunting large fish, such as sizeable roach, bream or herring, or when you need to get the lure deeper. For this version, you need tackle suited to its weight.

How should I retrieve Venom when pike are reluctant to bite?

Start with short twitches and pauses. After each movement, take up excess line but leave the lure free to glide to the side. You can also work it with short bursts of speed on the reel. In cold water, try a slower retrieve. If a pike follows Venom without striking, change the rhythm or pause length on the next cast. Keep checking that the sinking lure does not drop into the vegetation or below the fish.

Which Venom colours should I take on a trip to Sweden or Finland?

For the Swedish coastal skerries, take Fluo Yellow and Blue Mackerel — both colours work very well on these waters. It is also worth bringing Gaspar Tail Bait 7 cm so you can offer pike a smaller lure with an active tail. For clear lakes in Sweden and Finland with roach and other silvery fish, take Dirty Roach or Immortal. Add Brown Trout if pike there hunt trout. Water clarity varies across Scandinavia, so bring several different colours.

How should I choose a Venom colour for Masuria, Lithuania, Latvia and the Netherlands?

First look at the water and the fish living in it. On clear lakes, start with Dirty Roach, Immortal or Old Gold. In slightly brown-stained or greenish water, compare the gold of Golden Fury with the contrasting Buster. In murky canals and bays, try Original, Fluo Yellow or Pink Pie. The same rule is useful on Rügen: choose the colour to suit visibility and what the pike eat, rather than just the name of the destination.
