Frequently asked questions

What type of lure is Gaspar Tail Bait?

Gaspar Tail Bait is a sinking pike lure that combines the consistent action of a glider with the movement of a soft tail. It makes pronounced, regular side-to-side glides during the retrieve.

What action does Gaspar Tail Bait have?

Gaspar makes consistent, repeatable glides from left to right. You can vary the range and intensity of its action through retrieve speed, short rod movements and pauses.

What does Gaspar's soft tail do?

The soft tail follows the body and creates extra movement during the retrieve, as the lure slows down and as it sinks. It makes Gaspar more visible and complements its side-to-side action.

What sizes is Gaspar Tail Bait available in?

Gaspar is available in three sinking versions: TB 7 cm, 25 g with BKK size 6 treble hooks; TB 10 cm, 60 g with BKK size 2 treble hooks; and TB 12 cm, 100 g with BKK size 2/0 treble hooks.

Which Gaspar size should I choose?

Gaspar 7 cm works well with a lighter setup and when you want a smaller lure profile. The 10 cm version is the most versatile. Gaspar 12 cm is intended for powerful tackle, larger pike and fishing in deeper water. Check your rod's maximum casting weight before choosing.

How should I retrieve Gaspar Tail Bait?

You can fish Gaspar with a steady retrieve, short rod movements or a combination of both. Changes in speed, bursts of acceleration and pauses let you adjust its action to the pike's activity level.

Is Gaspar suitable for fishing with live sonar?

Yes. Gaspar's consistent, predictable action makes it easier to follow the lure on a live sonar screen and retrieve it close to a selected pike suspended in the water column.

What is the threaded slot in the belly of Gaspar 12 cm for?

The slot in the belly of Gaspar 12 cm lets you screw in an additional weight. This increases the sink rate and gets the lure down to the depth of the pike you are watching more quickly.

How does adding weight change the action of Gaspar 12 cm?

An additional weight primarily increases the sink rate and makes it easier to retrieve the lure in deeper water. Choose the amount of added weight to suit the depth, the fish's activity level and your rod's maximum casting weight.

Do all Gaspar sizes have a slot for an additional weight?

No. The threaded slot for fitting an additional weight is found on the Gaspar Tail Bait 12 cm version.

Which Gaspar colour should I choose?

In clear water, natural colours that match the fish present in the water you are fishing are a good starting point. In murky water, low light or limited visibility, try contrasting and fluorescent patterns.

Do I need a leader when fishing with Gaspar?

Yes. When fishing for pike, use a leader that resists being cut by the fish's teeth. Match its strength to the weight of your chosen Gaspar, any added weight and the other components of your setup.
